Method: live DataForSEO mobile SERPs captured 2026-10-06 for concrete contractor [city] in Los Angeles, Phoenix, Dallas and Houston. The top 2 real contractor sites per market were deep-profiled at source level — structure, offers, CTAs, chat, schema, tracking. Directories, marketplaces and social results were skipped and logged in the SERP Landscape. Where organic held zero contractor sites (Phoenix), the map-pack winners were profiled instead. Every claim below carries its source site.
1. Directories own the organic SERP — the map pack is the real business. Phoenix’s entire organic top 10 is Thumbtack, Craigslist, Yelp, HomeAdvisor, Houzz, BBB, MapQuest, Reddit, Facebook and concretecontractorslist; across all four markets just 5 of 36 organic listings went to real contractor sites (Safer Sidewalks and Rush Concrete in LA; Hi-Tek Paving in Dallas; Cruz Creative Concrete and Pro Concrete Houston in Houston). Every map-pack winner earned its slot on reviews and proximity, not website quality — TRC Concrete holds Phoenix pack #3 on a 5-page template that is now offline entirely. For the template: the site’s job is GBP feeding, conversion and review velocity; organic is a long-tail permutation play, not a homepage play.
2. The review engine gap is the fastest win in the niche. The map-pack bar is shockingly low — LA: 5.0/5, 4.7/18, 5.0/11; Dallas #1 has 6 reviews — yet almost nobody displays reviews on-site. Primo’s Concrete sits on 5.0/68 and shows none of it; TJ Concrete has 5.0/47 and zero on-site. The one site doing it right — Safer Sidewalks’ live Google review widget (5.0/28) plus CSLB #1080713 in every footer — still sits outside the LA top 3. Nobody in the study runs a review-ask workflow. Ship the SMS review flow, the live widget and AggregateRating schema, and 40+ reviews beats every LA and Dallas pack winner outright.
3. City × service permutation pages are the only organic lever that works. Rush Concrete runs ~65 location pages (9 service stems × 13 cities) plus 106 blog posts, interlinked with reciprocal “Areas We Serve” blocks. TJ Concrete runs 21 keyword pages — 13 services plus 8 location-<city>-tx.html suburb pages with unique H2s and city-to-city cross-links. Hi-Tek Paving’s 7 /areas/<city> pages plus LocalBusiness + PavingContractor schema on every URL made it the only contractor site to rank organically in Dallas. All three rank on permutation depth, not design quality. The spec writes itself: one page per service × every city in the metro, each carrying unique local proof.
4. Trust in this niche is a mess — that’s the opening. Cruz Creative Concrete’s live domain now serves an unrelated Georgia contractor (profiled from Wayback). TRC’s site is down (Cloudflare 522) and its archived copy still carries leftover party-rental copy and a stray New York phone number. Pro Concrete Houston rents its quote form to a lead broker (LeadSmart iframe tagged affiliate_source=yaniana). Rush Concrete shows first-initial-only testimonials and no license number; TJ masks its tel link and ships postalCode "11613" in schema. Only two sites in the entire study display a license: Safer Sidewalks (CSLB #1080713, C8|B) and Primo’s (AZ ROC #347665, in a persistent header bar). A clean site with license, insurance and real named reviews differentiates on day one.
5. Nobody sells urgency, financing, or guarantees. Zero financing providers across all 8 sites. Zero coupons — Safer Sidewalks’ $10,000/$12,400 city rebate is a government program, not a promo. Zero workmanship warranties anywhere. The single response-time promise in the whole study is Hi-Tek Paving’s “Responses within 2 hrs”; TJ’s “Open 24 Hours” claim is unsubstantiated and unbacked. Same-day estimates, a real warranty, a seasonal offer and financing are completely uncontested conversion lanes.

Term: concrete contractor [city] — mobile, depth 10, captured 2026-10-06 (DataForSEO). Map pack top 3 with rating / review counts first, then the organic order with type badges. Skipped entries (directories, marketplaces, forums, social) are listed as context — their dominance is finding #1.

Headline: 31 of 36 organic listings across the four markets are directories, marketplaces or social. Phoenix has no organic surface for contractors at all. LA triggers an AI Overview plus four cost PAA questions (“How much does a concrete contractor charge?”) — and no ranking contractor answers pricing on-site.
Booking URLs: none of the 12 map-pack winners surfaced a booking URL — every one runs phone + form. Online scheduling is an open lane in all four markets.

Ultimate Concrete & Masonry Site Spec

Assembled from the best of all 8 profiled sites with the field’s shared failures excluded. Items marked gap are uncontested across the whole field.

1. Site Architecture

2. Homepage Anatomy (top to bottom)

  1. Sticky header: logo, nav (Services / Areas / Gallery / Financing / Reviews), persistent license badge (Primo’s ROC-bar pattern), click-to-call phone + Free Estimate button.
  2. Hero: H1 with service + city, one-line guarantee, review badge (rating + count), 3-field quote form + call button side by side (Hi-Tek’s hero conversion block).
  3. Trust band: Licensed · Bonded & Insured · Satisfaction Guaranteed · Free On-Site Estimates (Cruz’s 4-badge strip, upgraded with real license numbers).
  4. Services grid, cards linking to service pages.
  5. Finish/variant showcase with real project photos (Primo’s gallery).
  6. Live Google reviews widget (Safer Sidewalks’ pattern) + AggregateRating schema.
  7. Why choose us: 3–5 quantified differentiators + warranty line.
  8. Process: 4 steps from free estimate to finished pour.
  9. Offer band: financing + current promo + calculator/rebate hook.
  10. Areas we serve: linked city list.
  11. Final CTA: phone + form + response-time promise.
  12. Footer: license numbers, insurance, service areas, hours, schema NAP.

3. Offer Stack

Next Steps

  1. Format check: passes — same chrome, sidebar and section order as the HVAC reference report (dropsites-hvac-teardown.pages.dev).
  2. Template feed: the Ultimate Site Spec above becomes the Concrete & Masonry template upgrade list — city × service permutation grid (TJ / Rush), finish-variant service pages (Primo’s), calculator/rebate lead magnet (Safer Sidewalks), 3-field SMS-consent form + 2-hr SLA (Hi-Tek), license-in-header trust bar, live review widget + AggregateRating schema.
  3. Recurring tier: thin in this niche — the recurring play is sealing & maintenance (driveway and patio sealing every 2–3 years), offered by zero profiled sites; a “Concrete Care Plan” is uncontested. The near-term money hook is the calculator/rebate-style lead magnet (Safer Sidewalks).
  4. Snapshots: DataForSEO pulls are point-in-time (2026-10-06). Two profiled domains were broken at capture (TRC — Cloudflare 522; Cruz — serving another company’s site) — re-verify before quoting them.
